The sheet is extruded in one pass: two polypropylene skins joined by parallel ribs. The ribs form channels (flutes) that run the length of the sheet, which is why the material is stiff along the flutes and bends easily across them. The U.S. Department of Commerce describes it in its 2026 orders as "corrugated polypropylene sheets, also known as polypropylene hollow core sheets, polypropylene fluted sheets, polypropylene twin wall sheets, or multi wall sheets", where "the inside of the sheet contains channels or pockets of air which make the sheets lightweight, while retaining strength and durability".
Buyers search for the same product as corrugated plastic sheet, PP corrugated sheet, fluted polypropylene and twin-wall PP, and under several brand names. On a purchase order the name matters less than five numbers: thickness, grammage, width, length and tolerance. If you need help choosing the thickness for a box or a sign, start with our corrugated plastic thickness guide; this page is about buying the sheet itself in volume.
Thickness tells you the gap between the two faces. Grammage (g/m²) tells you how much polypropylene is in the sheet, and it is what you pay for and what carries the load. The table uses the grammage ranges from our thickness guide and works out the weight of one 1,220 × 2,440 mm sheet (2.98 m²) at a typical grammage.
| Thickness | Inches | Usual grammage range (g/m²) | Weight of one 48 × 96 in sheet | Sheets per tonne | Typical use |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2 mm | 0.079 in | 300–450 | 1.1 kg / 2.5 lb (at 380 g/m²) | about 880 | Layer pads, dividers, inserts, small die-cut parts |
| 2.5–3 mm | 0.098–0.118 in | 450–650 | 1.6 kg / 3.6 lb (at 550 g/m²) | about 610 | Light totes, mailers, economy sign blanks, protection board |
| 4 mm | 0.157 in | 650–1,000 | 2.2 kg / 4.9 lb (at 750 g/m²) | about 450 | Yard-sign blanks, picking totes, floor protection |
| 5 mm | 0.197 in | 900–1,200 | 3.0 kg / 6.6 lb (at 1,000 g/m²) | about 340 | Export produce boxes, fish totes, returnable shippers |
| 6 mm | 0.236 in | 1,100–1,500 | 3.9 kg / 8.5 lb (at 1,300 g/m²) | about 260 | Heavy-duty totes, pallet sleeves, large signs |
| 8 mm | 0.315 in | 1,400–2,000 | 5.1 kg / 11.2 lb (at 1,700 g/m²) | about 200 | Sleeve-pack bins, dunnage, long-run returnables |
| 10 mm | 0.394 in | 1,800–2,500 | 6.3 kg / 13.8 lb (at 2,100 g/m²) | about 160 | Bulk bins, heavy pallet sleeves, panels |
Grammage ranges: Fuxing corrugated plastic thickness guide. Sheet weights and sheets per tonne are our arithmetic (area 1.22 m × 2.44 m = 2.98 m², multiplied by the example grammage), not test results. A supplier can make a given thickness lighter or heavier than these ranges; that is the reason to state g/m² on the order.
The same arithmetic explains freight. Dividing grammage by thickness gives a bulk density of about 190–210 kg/m³ for every row in the table (750 g/m² ÷ 0.004 m = 188 kg/m³). Sheet therefore fills a container by volume long before it reaches the weight limit. Ask the supplier for the stack height and pallet plan, not only the price per sheet.
Three products leave the same extrusion line. They are priced, packed and, in the United States, treated differently at the border.
| Form | What it is | Who buys it | Under the 2026 U.S. orders on PP corrugated boxes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Plain sheet | Uncut rectangle, stock or custom size | Converters, sign printers, distributors, contractors (floor and wall protection) | The scope text names sheets as the material boxes are made of; plain sheets are not listed as subject merchandise. Confirm classification with your broker. |
| Cut blank, layer pad, divider, sign blank | Sheet cut to a finished rectangle, sometimes with rounded corners or printed | Printers, bottlers and canners (layer pads), growers (dividers) | Not a box by description, but the written scope decides. Confirm with your broker. |
| Die-cut and scored box blank | Sheet cut and creased so it folds into a box, tote or bin; may include a manufacturer's joint | Packers and box assemblers | Covered when made in China or Vietnam: the orders include boxes "whether folded into shape or in an unfolded form". |
| Lid or top shipped on its own | Separate cover for a box | Packers | Covered when made in China or Vietnam: lids or tops "imported separately" are named. |

We looked at what suppliers state in public rather than what they say on the phone. The figures below are each supplier's own published terms on the date of this guide; they are examples of the type, not a ranking.
| Supplier type | Published range | Published minimum | Fits when | Watch for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| U.S. extruder | 2–10 mm; standard 48 × 96 in; blue, white, black as standard colours; corona treated | Wholesale from 3,200 sq ft; custom orders 15,000 sq ft | You need short lead time, truck delivery and stock colours | Custom colour or grammage raises the minimum |
| Asian exporter (factory direct) | 2–12 mm; 1,220 × 2,440 mm standard; width under 2,600 mm; eight or more colours; corona, anti-static, fire-rated and UV options | 1,000 pieces | You buy by the container and want custom width, grammage or colour | Sea freight time, volume-limited loading, and duty treatment of the exact product and origin |
| Distributor or plastics retailer | 4 mm and 10 mm stock sheets, 10-sheet packs; cut tolerance ± 1/4 in on one listing | One pack | You need a few sheets this week | Price per sheet; grammage is often not stated |

| Option | What it does | What to write on the order |
|---|---|---|
| Corona treatment | Raises surface energy so inks and adhesives bond | One side or both; 38 dyne or higher; treatment date, because the effect fades over months |
| UV stabiliser | Slows embrittlement and fading outdoors | Expected outdoor life and climate; ask what test the supplier uses |
| Anti-static or conductive grade | Reduces dust attraction and static discharge | The surface resistivity you need, and whether it must be permanent |
| Flame-retardant grade | Slows flame spread | The fire standard your site or customer requires, by name |
| Colour and resin | Natural, white, black or matched colour; virgin or recycled content | Colour reference; virgin resin for food-contact boxes; recycled share if you accept it |
| Edges and corners | Open flutes collect water and dirt | Sealed edges or rounded corners if the part is washed or handled by hand |
The 38 dyne figure and the fade warning are from our thickness guide. We have not listed performance numbers for UV, anti-static or flame-retardant grades because they depend on the additive package; ask for a test report against the standard you name.
| Item | Why the supplier needs it |
|---|---|
| Thickness (mm) and grammage (g/m²) | Sets the resin weight and the price; thickness alone is not a specification |
| Width × length, and tolerance | Custom lengths are cut on the line; tolerance decides whether sheets run on your press or die-cutter |
| Flute direction | State whether flutes run along the long or the short side; it controls stiffness and how a box folds |
| Colour, resin, additives | Sets the extrusion run and the minimum quantity |
| Corona treatment and print method | Screen, flexo and digital inks need different surface preparation |
| Quantity per order and per year | Lets the supplier quote a run price instead of a sample price |
| Packing | Sheets per pallet, pallet size, stretch wrap, corner protection, maximum stack height |
| Destination, Incoterm and country of origin wanted | Freight is a large share of landed cost for a light, bulky product; origin decides the duty |
| End use, and drawing if you want blanks | A supplier who knows the use can suggest a lighter or stiffer grade, or quote die-cut blanks instead of sheet |
For finished boxes rather than sheet, use our PP produce box specification template.
